When exiting PVR Airport (Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, you have several transportation options:
1. Taxis: Taxis are readily available at the airport. You can take an official airport taxi to your destination. These taxis are regulated and typically have set fares to various parts of the city.
2. Shuttle Services: Many hotels and resorts offer shuttle services to and from the airport. Check with your accommodation to see if they provide this service.
3. Rental Cars: If you desire the freedom of driving on your own, there is a convenient option to rent a car from a variety of rental agencies right at the airport. However, do ensure that you have all the essential documents and appropriate insurance coverage in place. It's worth noting that the rental car services are easily reachable, yet some travelers may find the rental fees comparatively high, and the rental process itself can be more time-consuming compared to what you might encounter in the United States. For those seeking a more efficient and cost-effective alternative, hiring a private driver for day trips often emerges as a preferable choice.
4. Public Buses: Public buses are a budget-friendly option. There's a bus stop near the airport, and you can take a local bus to different parts of Puerto Vallarta.
5. Private Transfers: You can arrange for a private transfer service in advance. These services often provide a more comfortable and personalized experience. I have a few excellent and reasonable drivers I can recommend. DM me at @BeachPleasePVR on Instagram
6. Ride-Sharing: UBER is available but please see the info below for specifics.
7. Walking: If your destination is relatively close to the airport, you can walk. However, keep in mind the distance and weather conditions.
IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING UBER
To access Uber or other ride-sharing services at PVR Airport, you need to use a designated pick-up area or follow specific instructions. You will need to cross the pedestrian bridge to get an Uber- it's a quick 3 min walk- Uber can not pick you up directly outside the aitport.
1. Requesting the Ride: After you've collected your luggage and are ready to leave the terminal, open the Uber app on your smartphone. Enter your
destination and request a ride as you normally would.
2. Designated Pick-up Point: The app will typically provide instructions on where to meet your driver however you will need to exit the airport area and cross the Pedestrian Bridge. Don't worry, it sounds much more complicated than it actually is.
3. Pedestrian Bridge: The "pedestrian bridge" or walkway that connects the airport terminal to the designated ride-sharing pick-up zone. Most people will meet their Uber in front of the restaurants just on the other side of the bridge. UPDATE DEC 22, 2023- UBER is now allowed to pick up and drop off in front of the airport. I have not tried it yet. I'll update more on my arrival 12/26/23
UPDATE- On December 26, 2023, upon arrival, I opened the Uber app and noticed two pickup options: 1) at the restaurant and 2) across the pedestrian bridge. The airport was crowded with people waiting, prompting me to opt for the bridge to both ease my own experience and assist the Uber driver in avoiding the airport line.
4. Confirmation: Verify the driver's identity by checking their photo and asking for their name. Your driver will also confirm your name and destination.
5. Ride Commencement: Once you're sure you're in the correct vehicle with the correct driver, you can start your journey.
Usually, the fare for a trip from PVR Airport to the Romantic Zone falls within a range of approximately 136 to 225 pesos, which equates to around 8.00 to 15.00 US dollars. It's important to note that fares and costs can fluctuate significantly based on the season, time of day, and peak travel times, so it's advisable to be prepared for potential variations in pricing.
